What to expect
Firstly, I want to acknowledge your courage and strength in seeking help
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and lay the foundation for your therapy journey. Here’s what you can expect:
Introduction and Information: I’ll explain how I work, including my integrative approach, and discuss what therapy might look like for you.
Confidentiality and Child Protection: I will inform you about confidentiality and its limits, including the Child First laws, where confidentiality must be broken to ensure safety.
Sharing Your Story: You’ll have space to share what brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve.
Gathering Important Details: I’ll ask for basic information such as your next of kin and GP contact, which helps me support you safely.
Setting Expectations: We’ll talk about what you can expect from therapy and how we’ll work together toward your goals.
Questions and Comfort: You’re encouraged to ask any questions and share any concerns you have about the process.
The first session is about creating a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and understood. It’s the start of a collaborative journey tailored to your unique needs.
Some newcomers to therapy may not realise that it involves self-reflection, mastering self-awareness. At times, I will ask you if you feel comfortable and at your own pace to talk about your feelings and emotions
In between sessions- depending on what we are working on - I may ask you do an exercise, journaling in between sessions is one of the most effective ways to maximise the benefits from therapy
You will be not to forced to talk about something that's too difficult to talk about
